ملبان لبهاي بزرگ دو لايه کلفت از بافت پوستي هستند که از قسمت فوقاني دستگاه تناسلي اغاز و تا معقد ادامه ميابند. قسمت خارجي اين لبها از پوست رنگي غدد چربي و البته پس از بلوغ از مو پوشيده ميشود. قسمتهاي داخلي نرم و بدون مو با چند غده چربي قرار دارند. زير اين لايه هاي پوستي اغلب بافتي از چربي چند رباط رشته هاي نرم ماهيچه اي عصب ها و رگهاي لنفاوي و خوني قرار دارند. ملبان در حين دخول با بيضه هاي مرد در تماس قرار مي گيرد. غددي که در اين لبهاست عطري از خود تراوش مي کند که موجب تحريک در هر دو جنس ميشود. ملبان مهبل را از اسيب مستقيم خارجي حفظ مي کند به عبارتي ديگر به نوعي سپر مهبل است. ملبان همان خايه در مردان است اما به صورت دو نيم صفحه. اگر با دقت به کلبان نگاه کنيد و ان را با بافت پوستي خايه مقايسه کنيد متوجه مي شويد که از يک جنس هستند منتها در زن به صورت دو نيم صفحه و در مرد به صورت کروي شکل است.
